Holgas and Dianas were from China

This Saturday was simple, I got down to making my specs, had dinner with the bf and watched Ice Age 3.

We had dessert at Canele, because I wanted to eat Macroons. Each is $2.30, they sell it in a box of 6, so we decided to get one small box, and then changed our minds to sit down and eat it in the cafe itself, thinking I could take a couple of pictures of the cute macroons, my camera did some funny act and somehow refused to power up. (By the way, I just bought it from some JC kid about 4 days ago) I panicked and insisted we walk to Sim Lim from Raffles Place to go to the shop and also an excuse to get batteries too. We took 15 minutes to get there walking at lightning speed. Oh, by the way the macroons were great :D

Then later the camera managed to work fine, apparently it’s the battery’s fault. So we walked back, to get the car to head down to PS. While Ice Age 3 is the usual cutesy stuff, well, yeah, just cutesy stuff.

Anyway the bf just got back from Bangkok about 4 days ago, and he insisted he stay away because of the socialy responsible part of him said so. And the last time we were there, I was eyeing this Holga micro camera, really small but a cute novelty item to have around. He surprised me with it and also about 4 fake ralph lauren 3/4 sleeve shirts when I told him just to get me one more. But that’s him always very OTT.

Mini-mau!!! Fake Nici tiger from China that resides on the side of my light brown Domke bag.

Anxiously waiting for the “surprise” he brought back from Thailand.

Hmm, something from Siam Paragon….

TADA!!!!!

Cute right?

Yes they’re made in China. And I really mean ORIGINATED. Also known as a toy-camera, the successor later on was the Diana, don’t ask me why it’s named that, I don’t know.

Anyway this holga uses a 25mm film. I don’t know how it does the metering, I’m a little scared of it, but it’s aperture is at f8, and shutter at 1/125. Scary I know, means I can only take in BRIGHT BRIGHT BRIGHT day light with steady hands. The film he got for me is ISO 200. So, I feel a TAD safer, from a ISO 100.

Loading the film, I’m ready to go! yay!

I present to you, my new toy!
The Holga Micro-110

Welcome to the working world!

Welcome me at least. Today was my first official full day at work, yesterday was rather interesting with my boss telling me that I could come to work when he wakes up because he's jet lagged and there's no point if I go down to the office and he's not there. So I was supposed to wait for his call, he approximately gave about 11am to 1pmish where he'd call. Somehow, my phone managed to NOT receive all calls, all sms-es that morning, such things only happen to me really... I only realised this when I tried to make a call out and had to turn off and on my phone again, only to be bombarded by 10 over msgs and missed calls. So not such a great day to start the first day of work. But all in all, things are fine, except my eye irritation got worst from indirectly getting sore eyes from someone's kids'. Also met the guy who's production editing suite is at the back of the office. He also happens to know a few people I know, so we had lots to chat about today till everyone else in the office thought we knew each other. In fact, the guy knows my VERY FIRST boss. Such a small world indeed. That company was probably the longest company I've worked for yet, spanning across post A Levels to middle of my freshmen year, also my favourite job to date, and not to mention highest paying too. Who says you can't earn from a part-time job? The irony, sales, something I steer clear away and ward off wearing a string of garlic worn around my neck with a wooden stake in hand.

So things are underway, although I'm a little shy of my work, no, seriously... bare with the as of now, sparse content but we're having tie-ups in the future soooo..... Sign up as a member and stand a chance to win an iPod Shuffle at www.freshgrads.sg

How sleep evades me...

Majority of my life, I've struggled with the whole daily event of sleep. I won't say I have insomia, because I think that's too drastic a word, just the inability to fall asleep at will. It's really this stupid vicious cycle of "thought" that really keeps me awake. When I have nothing to do, I think, randomly about random things, and when I'm busy burdened with work, I think about that too. Previously, my solution to the inability to fall asleep at will, was to fall asleep without will or more like the most inappropriate times. I.E, I'd work out, gym, exercise, run, pump weights to the point of fatigue, where the body has no choice but to take a sometimes uncalled for shut-eye. An embarrasing example was falling asleep at my desk during internship sitting up right.

And since I can't fall asleep, I might as well blog about some celeb gossip. With Transformers 2 being all the rage, and even though I disagree with majority of my friends, I still think the show was terribly disappointing. Thankfully, almost every other movie review page I've read agrees with me, so at least my slightly mangled mind is made up that I still have some strain of taste in movies.

Anyhoooo... I am a big fan of Shia LaBeouf and Megan Fox, and rumors, has it that they may be an item,
How can you not wish they weren't something in real life? Even if it is a publicity stunt...

And of course the news is dominated by MJ stuff, like how his children are biologically actually his dermatologist's, icdky, his children were actually surrogate and not of his genes. Then there's his will which excludes MJ's dad. Almost every other entertainment news is about MJ, even at the MTV website, all the recommended picks for music videos are MJ's old stuff.

Deciding that spending the supposed last day of my freedom well, was indeed, well spent. Doing my favourite things, sitting at the neighbourhood coffee shop sipping on home made lemon tea while watching the changing expressions the hearts of secondary school couples flutter, the office workers with their ringing cell phones and constant wiping of perspiration from the immense heat.

Then was for the evening of rowing and the sunset, and the notable mention of an eye candy or dos.

I decided to follow Fish’s advice to come out more. I’ve been hurdled up in my house for 2 months doing almost complete next to nothing worth mentioning except my daily routine of an hour or so run or my sadly reduced number of laps of swim to 20.

I sold off the 1D MKII.

New beginnings, 50D, 40D? 15.1mp vs 10.1mp, LCD of 92k dots vs 23k dots. $400 difference.
Sun, Fun, Haji Lane, and lots of lights camera, but little action

Photo heavy, so for your enjoyment…nice to have a good day taking random shots of things, and for once something new. I never visited haji lane before, yes, I have been pretty much a hermit. Today we walked from City Hall to Peninsular Plaza, to Sim Lim Square to Bugis Junction to Bras Besar to City Hall to Esplanade to the SIngapore Flyer.

And today’s mission was really Pies. Or at least for me to find an apple pie. Which took something like me saying “I think this shop sells pies” like everytime we passed a shop that hinted the even slightest possibility of food.

So we first went to to hunt for some camera stuff, but it seemed like all the reputable shops in city hall area were closed on a Sunday, and then we headed to my favourite and highly recommended Orient Photo at Sim Lim. In my two years of so since picking up this hobby, OP has the best service, nicest people and they don’t kah people, when I mean people, I mean me. The prices are always around the expected range and most of the time, one of the better bargains. Unlike our earlier experience at Funan, which made us want to huff and puff his little ol’ shop down.

Some shots with my 24-105mm, some with 50mm f1.8, and by far, still my all time favourite lens even though it’s like 10 times cheaper than the former. And i really mean 10 times cheaper, in fact more.

And presenting my photo buddy of the day, and also one of my long time friends!

Sadly, I thought I’d see some new stuff, but most of it, I’ve already seen before. Oh well, I guess it was a good excuse to get out of the house anyway.

Been watching Pushing Daisies again, and watching it makes me feel like going out to buy a pie to eat or something. One of my favourite TV series, too bad they canceled it after 2 seasons. The script is so original and humorous, its like fueling my dying brain from lack of activity.

Don't you hate it when things just build up and build up and build up, then it's too much to handle? It's like procrastination, but you're unaware of it.

I was always very contented with the fact that I've got good posture and a very straight spine, and little back problems even though canoeing supposed to sort of kill your lower back.

But because the rest of my spine is as flexible as it is, "believe the physio", another part of your spine has to compensate. From the once a year tribute to back aches, sleeping on the hard cold floor resulted in pains that easily triumph any cramp or shoulder dislocation. While it rocks to have your own personal physio, it also hurts as hell to get my lower back loosened up. The past week has been sleepless with me ravaging through the house to find deep heat in the wee hours of the morning, and I finally decided I needed to do something about the pain.

The awesome part about the massage is that he actually moves the individual vertebrae (I kid you not) in the spinal column. It doesn't hurt unless you have a problem there. It's like how when you have an injury, say your wrist (which I do, that I almost totally forgot about until about 2 weeks ago) he can move all the individual joints within it's socket and the feeling is kinda freaky, and where it hurts is where you've had an injury before.

Collecting my grad gown later :D

The death of the social life, and also days where you wake up before sunrise, and reach home after sunset. Kinda reminds me of school actually, not university, more like secondary and primary, where your only sensible looking wardrobe consisted of a blue pinafoe and canvass white shoes. Back then, the most trendy accessory was a Outdoor backpack with nothing but your fulscap and pencil box in it.

I’ve been swimming everyday for the last 3 days, because the 115kg bf commented I’m getting fat, and when someone that size dares to comment on such touchy issues, usually there’s much truth behind that, and when i complained to my mother about it, her response was, “That’s because you sit around everyday doing nothing”. So the statements, hard as it is to swallow, I decided since I’m lazy as hell to run around my neighbourhood because it seriously just sucks to run here, swimming seemed like a very canoeing-like-alternative.

Anyway to cool items now present in my humble abode, and being psycho-ed to outdo his younger sister, I present the Razer Barracuda.
Sims the deeper meaning

Every now and then, I ponder on the meaning of life. Studying astronomy made me feel small, like suddenly not scoring well on a test didn't seem to matter that much anymore. What I meant to say is that, there must be some form of reason to eat, live, breathe. Are we all but pawns? Like maybe not every single person has a greater calling, say like, I don't know, something random, Abraham Lincoln, to abolish slavery? We're not all Lincolns or Mandelas, maybe we're all just here to serve one purpose, as small as maybe to walk past a certain place at a certain time in a certain manner to who knows what, inspire some random influential author who would change humanity, like how's Gallileo changed the very way we gazed upon the night sky. They always say that there is meaning to life, but maybe, it's more like what's the meaning of our lives? Are we nurtured, groomed and packaged for just one tiny moment in the 14billion years of the universe's existence? Or are we just colleteral damage for a greater caused, convinced that our lives have such an awesome influence in the world's history?

Can you imagine, I got all this from just playing Sims this evening. It's a never ending cycle. You create some Sim as a child or teen or adult, fufil it's life's wishes, then move on to the next character and hope for it to procreate so that you'll have another Sim to command. That's just a computer game.

I've always pondered, what's my greater cause to the world? Is the meaning of our lives simply to live out to a monthly pay check, pursueing our own ambitions, or is there really no meaning to life itself, but a repetitive cycle to advance society and be the tiny building blocks, essential but replacable?

Ever since I dislocated my arm, I've not gone back to riding lessons. Firstly, I had to let my arm heal, and secondly, the accident never really hit me. When I was sitting there waiting for the ambulance and even a few days after, I was more annoyed that I could have cleared the lesson that day then the fact my dangling left shoulder needed to be popped back into it's socket.

So the days turned to weeks and the weeks turned to months. And somewhere along the line, I had a slight phobia of going back to ride. As pussy as it sounds, I really was quite afraid to go back because of firstly falling and secondly, getting my shoulder popped out or worst. The dislocation was my very first REAL injury, asI've always been very cautious in whatever sport I've done or the activities I do.

Last night, I decided to get out of this rut I've been in for the past month and do something a little more exciting. I hadn't ridden in 6 months, but I managed to pluck up my courage, book the lesson and the next thing was to make it down for the lesson at 8:15am.

I guess i was afraid that I wouldn't know how to start the bike, change gear, signal, do conering, figure 8, but it all came back slowly. Except, I think the worst is my ability to have lane discipline. And it's probably the most important. I kept forgetting to check back and which lane to NOT go onto. Interestingly, the places that I fell were all new places and today, I must say I'm more hum than ever. I can't believe that I can't maneuver the bike without being afraid it will come crashing down on one of my legs.

Today's mini attempt at pushing myself showed me two things. I probably won't continue to get a license, and secondly, that I need to wake up and push myself. It's been rather depressing at home, and I only wish I could shout out my lungs and scream away my anger and fustration. Home is not where the heart is, and it has always been my dream to move out once I've secured a full-time job, and let me tell you this dream of mine has deep roots, I think about 15 years in the making. Sometimes I wonder if this is God's horrible lesson for me. To put me through this and somehow ensuring I'll stay glued to this pseudo family I have. I cannot even describe how much hate and resentment that is deep-setted in my heart and mind. The way my throat shrinks and my tongue feels like it's going to choke me breathless.

To use vulgarities to taunt and sneer would even been too honourable.

But sadly, so far in the past 2 months, every show that I've sat through other than Star Trek and Wolverine, the rest pretty much left me restless in my seat. Addition to that, Blood the Last Vampire. Yes, guys, drool, My Sassy Girl's girl is acting. That's probably one of the only reasons why the BF insisted on watching and we had a row at it why I didn't want to watch the show and how I wanted to watch Drag Me To Hell and he didn't want to. I feel like saying "I told you so..." (that Blood really sucks), but I think that'll be just like rubbing salt in his already bruised ego. Well, firstly, I can't stand westerners ( I really don't know how to address them) and asians acting together. Especially so, if the leads are Asians. Most of the time, the established Asian, in this context, Korean actress, hot as she may be in Korea and every Mandarin speaking country, can't pronounce their words properly. Towards the end, the villan, OMG, I really need subtitles to even comprehend what she's talking about. She kept saying SENSE, SENSE, then i realised the sentence didn't make SENSE at all. Turns out, the word was STREGNTH. Wah like totally the inability to annunciation constinants lah. Not only that, they made the american actors look like idiots. It's just a bad bad mix. Why can't we have more Ng Chin Hans acting in these kinda shows. At least we don't put us Orientals to shame, now it looks like all Chinese/Koreans/Japanese can't speak properly.

Yesterday's sweltering heat left me not even bothering to turn on the water heater to bathe. The weather is so scorching hot that I'd rather shower in cold water and evaporate it off when I come out just to feel refreshed instead of dripping sweat all over again. It's been about 2 months and the weather isn't really letting up. At least now we have some alternate rainy-drizzly days.

So once again I've come to whine at how incredibly bored I am. I met up with Cheryl today and she did say it's days like these we're put through trying times and it's also how we're tested on our faith. I'm supposed to meet the guys for supper in like 2 minutes, but well, it's like 3 minutes walk away. And girls are entitled for a 5 minute grace period right? haha. Anyhow, the week's been pretty busy with 3 interviews and hanging out with friends to attempt to buy some more shoes. But alas, I'm a fussy shoe picker.

It's my last 3 months in Serangoon North Ave 1! A little sad, but I'm pretty excited about moving to a new place, at least I can throw away loads of my stuff I don't need, design my own room and it's just new. It's like how people generally like new things.

The BF and I decided to take a train ride over the weekend on the new circle line that opened right outside his place. The irony of it was he came to pick me up in his car, and we took the train from Lorong Chuan to Serangoon to change to the NEL to take to Hougang and then we took a buy back after dinner from Hougang Central and he sent me home in the car. The novelty of new things.

Ok it's 11:03pm. and I will be over the 5 minute grace. So nights world!

They don't make movies, music and TV series like they used to

I'm absolutely hooked on 2 Guys a Girl and a Pizza Place, if you know what that show is, you're probably in your mid to late twenties or just someone who was forced to watch whatever your older siblings wanted to watch when you were in secondary school. Basically to kill my boredom, I'm watching re-runs of my favourite TV series from Roswell to Futurama. And I absolutely love Futurama although it's not that old. Ryan Reynolds is way hotter now than he was in 2 Guys and a Girl. Men do age like wine...

On another note, Borat was so 2006 and before you start telling me how much Borat rocks, pls really, get up to date and watch Sacha Cohen's upcoming film's trailer Bruno. zomg to waxing, hair dye and lots of body toning.
And I can't believe Sacha Cohen's girlfriend is Isla Fisher. Zomgness to confessions of a shopaholic haha.

Now I understand the obsession with Twilight

I finally got down to watching Twilight today. I know, I'm like 6 months behind schedule. I could never understand the obsession with Robert Pattinsson, I've seen photos of him in magazines constantly, and I could never just get it why he's the new heart throbe amongst teenage girls. Teenage girls I say because nowadays I realise girls my age go crazy over hugh jackman and daniel craig or christian bale.
But now, I can see why he's the "perfect boyfriend". It was like watching Superman all over again, intense close up scenes and emphasis on his chisled good looks, totally makes girls go weak in the knees, too bad if I had to choose a Twilight guy, I'd choose Jaspar Cullen. Vacant and broody, tortured, just oh soo alluring.

Also, I like how they seem to cast either British or European guys as vampires. hehe...

I guess emo never really left.

I watched Terminator, and this up and coming new dood Anton Yelchin, is so the new in thing. Acting in Star Trek and Terminator, like the two biggest movies of summer. Russian is hot I say. Plus he looks like Adam Van Koeverden without muscles. I like...
